An Illustrated Adventure

Drawing has always been something I’ve enjoyed doing. When words would fail me I try my hand at expressing my emotions visually but oftentimes I get even more frustrated at my inability to make my hands create what I see in my mind, which is almost always the case. Despite this I continue drawing anyway, and although not every piece satisfies me I still share most of them online. As in the words of my friend: “Posting my art makes me feel like I tried.” Wise words. :approve:

As I am nearing the completion of my graphic design diploma course, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve changed ever since I started two years ago. One thing lead to another and I found myself wondering about how much my drawings have changed over my stay here in Singapore as well, and as I compiled all of my lineless drawings since the beginning of my college adventure, I was quite amazed at how different my ~drawing style~ has become.

This post is about a journey, much like how this animation illustrates. At the beginning it’s not that refined, but it gets better over time. Like my drawing, this is how I picture my own artistic adventure and my life in general, and I hope you’ll stick around to see through this particular episode right through until the end! :purplew:

Join me as I take a look at three years’ worth of drawings and make fun of my older illustrations  (Note: this is a picture heavy post)

February fades to March

Welp, it’s been a while and a lot has happened but I wasn’t able to blog about them here! I don’t exactly have the luxury of time now either, but I have my reasons… read more »

How to Prepare Kimbap… in the eyes of the one who would eat it

I personally do not know how to prepare kimbap, so this run-through is basically just me retelling how my mom ends up creating her little masterpieces! She makes them so effortlessly, but this is my mom we’re talking about, so I’m pretty sure that the whole process takes some skill and patience. There are a lot of tutorials on how to prepare kimbap on the internet, so here’s how the whole process looks like to a girl who is exceptionally unskilled in the field of cooking.

First she cooked each component of the kimbap separately. There has to be a visual balance in terms of colours, as well as a dietary balance with respect to the food pyramid. For this particular set, my mom prepared eggs, chicken, green vegetables (kangkong), carrots, and pickled radish. She likes to mix it up on other days, like using spam instead of chicken.

New Year, Old News

Happy 2013! It’s almost February now and I must say that although January has been slipping past me really quickly, a lot has been happening in my life. Now is not the time for me to talk about it though, so at the moment I will be sharing how I spent my New Year’s and as well as my first few days back in Singapore.

We had a small feast, nothing lavish like what I saw my friends posting on Facebook and Twitter. The best part about the whole celebration was that everyone I loved was around the table as I welcomed the year 2013. I’ve been getting this feeling of detachment every media noche, but maybe I’m just getting old, lol. This year my mom prepared rose flavoured cupcakes which we have affectionately nicknamed Bombay Cupcakes since they tasted so much like gulab jamun. :tapadhart:

Christmas 2012

Yes I know it’s a month since Christmas…

On the 20th of December I had a group presentation in the morning, and afterwards I went out with a couple of friends to accompany them in buying last minute gifts and helped out in wrapping our presents. Even though I’ve been in Singapore for two years now, I still marvel at this city’s beautiful skyline and the iconic Marina Bay Sands!
